About us
The Center for Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies “Denkraum Ukraine” (“Think Space Ukraine”) at the University of Regensburg is financed by the DAAD through funds from the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) from 2024 to 2028. It brings together expertise in Ukrainian history, culture, politics, law, and economics. The Center aims to establish an internationally visible hub for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary research and education on Ukraine.
The work of “Denkraum Ukraine” is organized around four research areas: language and cultural heritage, war and peace, migration, and regional diversity. Through events and collaborations with partners in Ukraine, Germany, and other countries, “Denkraum Ukraine” fosters academic exchange and creates a platform for cross-disciplinary dialogue.
“Denkraum Ukraine” at the University of Regensburg and the Competence Network Interdisciplinary Ukrainian Studies (KIU) in Frankfurt (Oder) - Berlin, led by the European University Viadrina, are the two DAAD-funded centers for Ukrainian studies in Germany. Together they work on the development of Ukraine-related academic research and education, such as the dissemination of Ukraine expertise in politics, academia, media and civil society, as well as the promotion of a Europe-wide dialog with Ukraine.
